Head of Operations Engineering | Morgantown, United States

Overview

The Head of Operations Engineering will lead the engineering function at our beverage manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for driving operational efficiency, managing capital projects, and supporting cross-functional teams including Maintenance, EH&S, Process, and Controls. You’ll oversee systems integration and facility expansion while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering operations and resource planning for cost efficiency

  • Define and track KPIs to drive continuous improvement

  • Manage CapEx, training, and consulting budgets

  • Maintain engineering drawings and design documentation

  • Administer CMMS systems (e.g., Upkeep) to track maintenance and contractor activities

  • Evaluate and onboard technology and automation vendors

  • Ensure technical scope accuracy in equipment and facility contracts

  • Align engineering and maintenance schedules with production needs

  • Coordinate plant shutdowns and uphold EH&S protocols (e.g., LOTO)

  • Oversee project execution, cost optimisation, and scheduling

  • Implement process improvements and operational efficiencies

  • Establish and enforce engineering and safety policies

  • Ensure compliance with SQF and food safety standards


Supervisory Duties
  • Lead strategic and day-to-day engineering initiatives

  • Hire, train, and manage engineering team members

  • Assign responsibilities based on team capabilities and business priorities

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical)

  • 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience

  • 5–7 years managing capital projects and budgets

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Office Suite, AutoCAD, ERP/CRM, and MES systems

  • Experience using CMMS platforms (e.g., Upkeep)

  • Ability to read and develop P&IDs

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organisational skills

  • Proficiency in process mapping and scheduling aligned with production


Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree

  • Background in aseptic beverage or food manufacturing

  • Knowledge of FDA, PMO, and GMP regulations

  • EH&S experience including LOTO and shutdown/startup

  • SQF and food safety certification familiarity

  • Comfortable working around electromagnetic equipment and lifting up to 15 lbs
